Helping Rural Libraries in Armenia to Embrace the Digital Age

Internet Society published an informative article about the Internet Society Armenia Chapter project “Computers, services and Wi-Fi Internet for rural libraries“. It launched as a pilot project in 2015. The “Beyond the Net Funding Program” supported this project and its main goal of developing the rural libraries, since 2017. The President of the Armenia Chapter Igor Mkrtumyan explains how this project is helping to address the needs of rural communities.

Accessible Europe: ICT for ALL | Vienna, Austria

On 12-14 December 2018 The “Accessible Europe: ICT for ALL” Forum was held in Vienna, Austria. This regional event for Europe was being jointly organized by the Telecommunication Development Bureau (BDT) of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and European Commission (EC), and was hosted by the United Nations Vienna. The Forum focused on further promoting the development of accessibility in countries and institutions, through the effort and cooperation of stakeholders and sharing successful outcomes of projects and initiatives already implemented, in order to interchange resources and solutions and make Europe region a more inclusive society. Lianna Galstyan, Internet Society Armenia Chapter Board Chair participated to this forum.

GeoIGF 2018

The 4th Georgian Internet Governance Forum took part on 11 December in Tbilisi, Georgia. The forum created a platform for subjects that are the most discussed and demanded in Georgia, such as: Internet Access, Safe Internet Puzzle, ccTLDs and IDNs (.GE and .გე), Content, Copyright and about the Next Generation and the Georgian IG Community.Internet Society Armenia Chapter members participated to GeoIGF2018 as panel speakers for “Stakeholder Engagement Opportunities” session. 13th IGF | Paris, France

The 13th Global Internet Governance Forum was held on 12-14 November at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France. The UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres and the President of France Emmanuel Macron made keynote opening speech.The overarching theme was “The Internet of Trust” highlighting the Internet security and trust. The multiple topics of discussions included cyber security, emerging technologies, evolution of the Internet governance, human rights issues, media and fake new, and more. The Armenian IGF, represented by Internet Society Armenia Chapter Board Member Lianna Galstyan, actively participated in discussions on various topics.
