According to the World Health Organization, by 2030 one in six people globally will be aged 60 or older. In Armenia, United Nations projections indicate that this age group will comprise 31.5% of the population by 2050.
In this context, utilizing the professional potential of all age groups – especially older adults – becomes increasingly important. This requires the ability to use modern IT technologies independently and safely.
The educational program “Improving Cybersecurity and Technological Skills of the Elderly” is designed to address these challenges. It is intended for 25 participants aged 60 and over.
The second phase of the project, launched on April 15, is funded by the Internet Society Foundation (ISF). It is being implemented by the Internet Society Armenia Chapter PO, in collaboration with Enterprise Incubator Foundation, Armenian-Indian Center of Excellence in ICT and the Association of Healthcare and Assistance to Older People.
“The realization of each individual’s professional potential, along with alignment to modern educational and technological standards is crucial for the country’s development and security. Our organization is working to address this issue through
various programs, one of which is this project, implemented through broad collaboration,” said Vesmira Harutyunyan, Board Chair of the Internet Society Armenia Chapter PO, welcoming the participants of the second phase.
The program participants highlighted the importance of this educational opportunity and expressed hope that, by the end of the theoretical and practical stages of the course, they will be able to use the Internet and social media safely, confidently, and efficiently – without unnecessary fear. They also hope to not only manage everyday tasks more easily but potentially acquire the skills needed to pursue a new profession.
