Digital Skills Development Course for Seniors Launches

Yeghizabeth Vorberyan, who holds a higher technical education and has many years of professional experience, has joined more than 20 older adults in the Digital Skills Development for Seniors course, implemented under the “Digital Democracy in Action” project.

“I wanted to feel more independent and safe online. This course is also a chance for me to keep my dignity in the eyes of my grandchildren – by not disappointing them with my knowledge and abilities,” Vorberyan shared at the course launch on November 17.

According to UN projections by 2050 Armenians aged 60 and above will make up 31.5% of the country’s population. Emphasizing the urgency of digital inclusion for seniors and announcing the start of the course, the organizers highlighted that engaging this age group in the digital environment not only enhances digital security but also reduces loneliness, strengthens community participation and supports the development of digital democracy.

“This course will help you navigate the digital world with greater confidence and independence. Digital tools can make everyday life easier – regardless of age,” said Kristina Hakobyan, Board Vice Chair of the Internet Society NGO.

The project aims to raise digital literacy among Armenia’s senior citizens, ensure their safe and effective participation in the digital environment and equip them to use online services independently and confidently.

The courses are organized as part of the “Digital Democracy in Action” project, implemented by the Freedom of Information Center NGO in partnership with the Internet Society NGO. The project is supported by  Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH as part of the “Digital Democracy for All” initiative.
