The programs of the “Internet Society Armenia Chapter” PO, focused on fostering the development of digital opportunities and skills, are ongoing.
As part of the ongoing technical upgrades, libraries in the Lori region-specifically the Lori Regional Library, the centralized Vanadzor libraries, and several others-will soon receive 20 computers. Additionally, the Spitak City Library has already received four additional computers during this stage. To date, the “Internet Society Armenia Chapter” PO has collaborated with 14 libraries in Lori region under a program aimed at digitizing library management and transforming libraries into community internet centers.
“Our organization strives not only to provide regional communities with access to broadband internet and enable them to utilize the vast educational resources available online but also to contribute to the revitalization and modernization of library functions,” stated Igor Mkrtumyan, President of the “Internet Society Armenia Chapter” PO.
The organization has initiated a new project in this direction-The Program to Transform Regional Libraries into Community Internet Centers in Kotayk and Syunik Regions-with support from the Internet Society Foundation (ISF).
Libraries will be equipped with broadband internet access, computers, and WiFi routers. Digitization initiatives will be implemented, an electronic library management system introduced, and staff retrained. The new program has already been launched in 15 libraries in Kotayk. It is scheduled to begin in October 2025 in Syunik and will be completed within a year.
