Armenia was represented by the “Internet Society” NGO at the TLDCON 2024 International Conference

Over 180 domain industry specialists attended the 17th International Conference of Registries and Registrars of CIS countries, Central and Eastern Europe (TLDCON), held on September 5-6 in Minsk, the capital of Belarus.

Armenia was represented at TLDCON 2024 by Anna Karakhanyan, a Board member of the “Internet Society” NGO. She presented statistics on registrations in the .am and .հայ domains, as well as their demographic coverage. Karakhanyan also highlighted the efforts of the “Internet Society” NGO to enhance the domain registration process. She noted that, under a newly established procedure, Armenian registrars are required to offer online registrations, a practice not yet implemented by all registrars.

During the thematic discussions across six sections of the two-day conference, speakers addressed issues related to Gobal Internet Governance and the domain industry, as well as the latest trends and opportunities for collaboration.

In the context of Global Internet Governance, the Internet Governance Forum (IGF), the Global Digital Compact (GDC), and the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) were recognized as key platforms for maintaining and advancing the multi-stakeholder governance model of the Internet.

The importance of registry cooperation in advancing the development of internationalized domain names (IDNs) and achieving Universal Acceptance (UA) was particularly emphasized to enhance the multilingual nature and accessibility of the Internet.

Since 2008, the TLDCON international conferences have been organized by the .ru/.рф domain coordination center to bring together registrars of country code top-level domains (ccTLDs) for discussions on Internet-related issues.
