Community Networks

Community Networks

Community networks happen when people come together to build and maintain the necessary infrastructure for Internet connection. Internet by the people, for the people.

Community Networks are a way to bridge the connectivity gap.

ISOC Armenia Chapter members Ani Sahakyan, Kristina Hakobyan, Mary Zakaryan and Qnar Misakyan took the Fundamentals 2021 Community Networks course.

Initiatives carried out

To implement the initiative, both participants of the course Kristina Hakobyan and Qnar Misakyan joined their efforts and chose to “Prepare a list of local partners that community networks could work with in your country”. They worked with the members of the Operators Union of Armenia and ISPs and planned to spread the research to registrars and major ISPs. Operators list was prepared by Kristina Hakobyan and the ISP list by Qnar Misakyan.

They will start surveying the organizations to find out their plans in Community Networks. The most vital projects will be presented for the consideration of the Chapter.
