Certificate Ceremony for Elderly Cybersecurity Program Participants

Using a computer and social media is no longer a challenge for 84-year-old Lida Margaryan. She now confidently applies the knowledge and skills she gained through the “Improving Elderly with Cybersecurity and Technological Skills” educational program.

“Until recently, even at the age of 80, I was still working. My computer skills were limited to typing texts – something I picked up during my years at the Institute of Geology. This course gave me the confidence to navigate the internet and use social media more freely,” said the oldest participant of the program during the certificate presentation ceremony held on July 12.

Igor Mkrtumyan the President of the Internet Society Armenia Chapter PO, awarded certificates to 25 participants of the program.

“Effectively utilizing the potential of the elderly is especially important for societal progress today, as humanity moves toward an aging population. Therefore, keeping up with the demands of the times is more than just a personal choice – it’s a shared responsibility, regardless of age,” Mkrtumyan noted.

During the course, participants gained both theoretical and practical knowledge on using the Internet, social media platforms, and various digital tools, along with essential cybersecurity principles.

“Age is just a number – a simple label. There was nothing stopping me from exploring this new field and acquiring new skills. Now I can solve everyday problems more easily and use the Internet independently,” said Stella Ananyan, expressing her gratitude to the course organizers.

“Improving Elderly with Cybersecurity and Technological Skills” project was implemented by the Internet Society Armenia Chapter PO, with funding from the Internet Society Foundation (ISF). The project was carried out in partnership with the Enterprise Incubator Foundation, the Armenian-Indian Center of Excellence in ICT, and the Association of  Healthcare and Assistance to Older People.
