European Connectivity Summit was held in Yerevan, Armenia, on 6-7 June 2023.
The conference’s theme was “Ensuring access to all – Europe and the region,” and its objective was to find ways to give people in rural areas access to the Internet.
Four countries’ telecommunications experts – Armenia, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, and Greece—presented their expertise in building community networks and expanding Internet access.
“Broadband Internet is a never-ending reservoir of knowledge. Igor Mkrtumyan, president of the “Internet Society” NGO and Chair of the “Internet Society Armenia chapter” NGO, stated at the summit that by bringing it to rural communities, we will contribute to the overall development of the nation and have a greater opportunity to use the potential of the community.
Implemented through extensive collaboration, due to organizations’ collaborative initiatives
.several communities in the Ararat marz have access to broadband internet, and more than 80 teenagers from five marzes have learned the fundamentals of programming.
• the House of Culture for the Blind has a smart room and recording studio where visually impaired people can learn how to utilize smart devices and show off their abilities.
• a radio that broadcasts specialized educational materials was made for blind people.
• a digital management application, music players, and WiFi converters were donated to regional libraries.
Igor Mkrtumyan stated, “We are attempting to extend access to broadband Internet, digital literacy, and, of course, cooperation with local and international partners with the inclusion of new finance sources.
