Women and men aged 60+ representing various professions—including mathematicians, doctors, teachers, office administrators, pastry chefs, midwives, and others—joined the “Digital Skills Development for Vulnerable Groups” training course on June 1.
The program, initiated by the Internet Society Armenia Chapter with financial support from the Internet Society Foundation, aims to help older adults navigate the Internet more independently and confidently, use online services safely, and organize their daily lives more effectively with the help of digital tools.
At the opening of the course, participants were welcomed by Vesmira Harutyunyan, Chair of the Board of the Internet Society Armenia Chapter.
“It would be a careless waste not to make use of the professional potential and experience of the older generation for the development of society. However, in the context of rapid technological change, many people find it difficult to fully benefit from digital opportunities. Through various programs, we strive to help especially older generations acquire the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the digital environment safely, correctly, and independently,” she noted.
The training is provided free of charge at the Armenian-Indian Center for Excellence in ICT. Over the course of one month, from June 1 to June 26, the center’s specialists will introduce more than 50 participants aged 60+ to the practical skills and rules for using smartphones and the Internet safely and effectively.
During the program, participants will learn about the fundamentals of digital security, the use of online services, modern communication and information-search tools, and digital opportunities that can make everyday life easier.
The organizers of the initiative believe that improving digital literacy not only helps older adults become more active and independent, but also enables them to participate in and contribute value to today’s digital environment through their rich professional and life experience.
